Tata Ultra E.12

The Tata Ultra E.12 is a 12-tonne electric goods carrier from Tata Motors, built on a chassis-with-cabin layout with a Box body and a Day Cabin. It is an L5N high-speed goods carrier that runs purely on battery power, so there is no fuel bill and no engine maintenance; it is aimed at fleet owners and transporters shifting intra-city distribution and short-haul routes to electric.

Range and charging

A 147 kWh battery pack powers the Ultra E.12, giving a claimed range of 200 km on a full charge. Charging takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours on the standard charger, which suits a truck that can top up at the depot between shifts. The 240 kW motor and 950 Nm of torque keep loaded performance usable in stop-and-go city traffic.

Performance and payload

The Ultra E.12 is rated for a 6,300 kg payload within a gross vehicle weight of 11,990 kg. It rides on six wheels with a 4x2 axle configuration, and the pneumatic drum brakes, power steering and hill-hold assist make it straightforward to drive. A 25% gradeability figure means it can climb ramps and loading docks without drama, and the telescopic tilt steering and driver information display keep the cab practical for long duty hours.
