The Tata Magic EV is a purpose-built all-electric passenger van from Tata Motors, engineered for last-mile mobility, school transport, staff shuttles and stage-carriage fleet duty. It is priced at Rs 5.10 lakh (ex-showroom) for the single 10-seater variant.
Battery & Range
A 14 kWh battery delivers a claimed range of up to 140 km on a full charge, with ABS and a reverse camera standard and a 7-inch TFT display up front. The pack is sized for a working day of short intra-city runs rather than long-haul duty.
Charging
From empty, a standard AC charge takes about 6.5 hours (390 minutes), while fast charging brings the battery up in around 90 minutes. That suits an overnight charge at the depot plus a midday top-up for a single-shift schedule.
Performance
The electric motor makes 34 bhp and 115 Nm of torque through a single-speed transmission, with a top speed of 80 km/h - appropriate for city limits rather than highway cruising. The Magic EV rides on semi-elliptical leaf springs at both ends.
Practicality
At 3790 mm long with a 2100 mm wheelbase and an 8600 mm turning radius, the van stays manageable in narrow lanes. It seats 11 (driver plus 10 passengers), with a gross vehicle weight of 2180 kg, an 825 kg payload and 160 mm of ground clearance.
Who should buy it
Operators running school runs, staff shuttles or short passenger routes where the day's kilometres stay comfortably inside 140 km are the natural buyers. Fleets that need highway speed, a longer single-shift range or a confirmed battery-warranty term should verify those points with Tata before committing.
