Launch timeline: already here, plus a special edition

The M9 went on sale in India on 21 July 2025, so the "launch date" question has a past-tense answer. The more recent milestone is the Couture Edition, a 50-unit run launched in August 2026 at Rs 4.99 lakh over the standard car. MG also revised prices by up to Rs 5 lakh in mid-2026, so the figures quoted in older coverage may no longer hold.

Distribution is deliberately narrow. The M9 is a fully imported CBU sold only through MG Select premium dealerships, which limits availability to select cities. A 3.3 kW AC wall box is included with the car.

Variant split: Limo or Couture

Both M9 variants share the same 90 kWh battery, 242 bhp motor and 548 km claimed range, so the choice is trim and exclusivity rather than hardware. The Presidential Limo opens the range at Rs 79.95 lakh. The Couture Edition costs Rs 84.94 lakh, is capped at 50 units, and launched in August 2026 with a Rs 4.99 lakh premium over the standard car. Regional pricing is flat across Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad for both variants, with no state subsidy applied.

Three exterior colours are available across the range: Pearl White, Concrete Grey and Metal Black. Given the CBU import route and the restricted MG Select network, a booking will come down to which dealer holds allocation in your city.

Battery, range and charging

Under the floor sits a 90 kWh lithium-ion (NMC) pack. The claimed MIDC/ARAI range is 548 km, while reviews report a more realistic figure of roughly 400 km in mixed driving, which is a sensible planning number for a car of this size. Charging is where the M9 asks for a little patience: an 11 kW AC charger needs about 10 hours for a 10-100 per cent top-up, while DC fast charging on a 160 kW charger cuts the same 10-100 per cent window to about 90 minutes. V2L and V2V power export are supported.

Performance and drivetrain

A permanent magnet synchronous motor produces 242 bhp and 350 Nm, sent to the front wheels. Top speed is 175 km/h and 0-100 km/h arrives in about 10.5 seconds, which is unhurried for a motorway cruiser but entirely acceptable for a chauffeur-driven MPV. MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension put ride comfort first. Drive modes are ECO, CITY and SPORT.

For context on the numbers: 242 bhp in a 5.2-metre, seven-seat MPV is about effortless cruising, not acceleration. The M9 is not pretending to be sporty, and that is the right call for the segment.

Dimensions and practicality

The M9 measures 5,200 mm long, 2,000 mm wide and 1,800 mm tall on a 3,200 mm wheelbase, with a ground clearance of 150 mm. It seats seven in a 2+2+3 layout. Boot space is 945 litres with all three rows up, expanding to 1,720 litres with the third row folded, and there is a 55-litre frunk under the bonnet. It rides on 19-inch wheels shod with Continental ContiSeal self-sealing tyres, and the turning radius is 5,800 mm.

That footprint is a full size above a typical Indian seven-seater. The 3,200 mm wheelbase is what makes the middle row genuinely limo-like, and the 945-litre boot stays usable even with seven people on board, which most MPVs cannot manage. The long body is the trade-off for that space in tight city streets.

Cabin and features

The rear cabin is the M9's reason to exist. Second-row Ottoman captain seats offer 16-way power adjustment with ventilation, heating, massage and memory, there are powered sliding doors, dual sunroofs, 64-colour ambient lighting, rear entertainment screens and a 13-speaker JBL audio system. The 12.3-inch touchscreen carries wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the i-SMART connected-car app is standard.

Seven airbags, Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera and a 5-star Euro NCAP rating make up the safety story. The standard vehicle warranty is 3 years, and the high-voltage battery is warrantied for life for the first registered private owner, reverting to 8 years or 1,60,000 km on transfer.

Who this is for

The M9 is for buyers who want an electric luxury people-mover with a chauffeur-grade second row and genuinely usable 7-seat space. If your shortlist is a Toyota Vellfire-style lounge on wheels and you want electric running costs, the M9 is currently the only game in that bracket. The roughly 400 km real-world range covers city fleets and intercity runs without daily charging anxiety.

It is not for you if you value driving dynamics, because the M9 is large, front-wheel-drive and tuned for comfort rather than engagement. The 150 mm ground clearance and long 5,200 mm body also demand care on broken roads and in tight city parking. And with only 50 Couture Edition units and a narrow MG Select sales network, availability will be the constraint for many buyers, not desire.
