Price
BYD has not confirmed Indian pricing for the Atto 2 yet. Estimates put the car between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 25 lakh ex-showroom, with the Active pegged at Rs 18 lakh and the Boost at Rs 22.5 lakh, but those are figures to treat as direction, not fact, until the car actually launches. The Atto 3, already on sale, runs from Rs 24.99 lakh for the Dynamic to Rs 34.49 lakh for the Superior.
That puts the Atto 2 Boost at roughly Rs 22.5 lakh against the Atto 3 Dynamic at Rs 24.99 lakh. A buyer choosing between the two is really deciding whether the bigger Atto 3 is worth the extra money.
Battery and range
The Atto 2 offers two Blade battery packs: 45.1 kWh on the Active for a claimed 312 km, and 51.1 kWh on the Boost for a claimed 410 km. Those are BYD's published figures, not ARAI-certified Indian numbers. The Atto 3 uses a 49.92 kWh pack on the Dynamic rated at 468 km ARAI, and a 60.48 kWh pack on the Premium and Superior rated at 521 km ARAI.
Two things matter here. The Atto 3's bigger pack delivers a much longer certified range. And the Atto 2's numbers are claims, so independent Indian testing will be needed before you treat them as comparable to the Atto 3's ARAI figures.
Motor and performance
The Atto 2 makes 176 bhp and 290 Nm from a front-mounted motor, with a claimed 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and a 160 km/h top speed. The Atto 3 produces 201 bhp and 310 Nm, hitting 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds on the Dynamic and 7.3 seconds on the Premium and Superior, also with a 160 km/h top speed.
The Atto 3 is the quicker car across the board, and its extra torque makes overtaking feel less strained. The Atto 2 is not slow, but it is pitched a clear rung lower.
Charging
The Atto 2 charges from 11 kW AC, reaching 0-100% in 5 hours 42 minutes on the Active and about 7 hours 12 minutes on the Boost. Its 65 kW DC fast charge takes 30-80% in 28 minutes on the Active and 30 minutes on the Boost. The Atto 3 uses a 7.2 kW AC charger, taking about 8 hours on the Dynamic and 9.5-10 hours on the bigger-pack trims, but its 80 kW DC fast charger tops the battery from 0-80% in 50 minutes.
The Atto 2 wins on home AC speed. The Atto 3 wins on peak DC speed, and its published figure covers a full 0-80% fill rather than the narrower 30-80% window the Atto 2 quotes.
Dimensions and space
The Atto 2 is 4310 mm long with a 2620 mm wheelbase, a 400-litre boot and five seats. The Atto 3 is 4455 mm long with a 2720 mm wheelbase, a 440-litre boot and five seats, plus 175 mm of ground clearance. The Atto 3 is the bigger, more practical family car, with 145 mm more wheelbase to stretch rear legroom.
Features and safety
Both cars share the same 12.8-inch rotatable touchscreen and digital instrument cluster. The Atto 2 brings six airbags, Level 2 ADAS as expected equipment, a 360-degree camera and a panoramic sunroof, though the camera and sunroof are listed as international-market features. The Atto 3 offers seven airbags, ESP and ABS, with Level 2 ADAS reserved for the Superior trim, plus an electric tailgate.
