The River Indie is a large, practical maxi-scooter from Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler maker River, self-styled as the "SUV of scooters". It launched in India in February 2023 and has since become one of the standout growth stories in the electric scooter segment, crossing 50,000 units of production in 2026.
Price & Variants
The Indie is offered in a single Standard variant priced from around Rs 1.46 lakh (ex-showroom). On-road pricing varies by city, from roughly Rs 1.49 lakh in Mumbai and Ahmedabad to about Rs 1.59 lakh in Bengaluru.
Battery & Range
It runs on a 4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, with a claimed IDC range of 163 km. Real-world range depends on the riding mode - about 110 km in Eco, 90 km in Ride and 70 km in Rush - with owners typically reporting 100-120 km in mixed city riding.
Performance
A mid-mounted 6.7 kW peak (4.5 kW continuous) PMSM motor produces 26 Nm of torque and a 90 km/h top speed. It accelerates from 0-40 km/h in about 3.7 seconds, with three riding modes - Eco, Ride and Rush - plus a chain drive and reverse assist.
Charging
Charging is AC-only through a portable home charger. A full 0-100% charge takes about 8 hours with the standard 480W charger, while the faster 750W charger cuts an 80% charge to around 5 hours.
Dimensions & Practicality
The Indie measures 1996 mm long and 765 mm wide with a 1365 mm wheelbase and 165 mm ground clearance. It offers a class-leading 43-litre underseat boot, a 12-litre front glovebox, front disc and rear disc brakes with combined braking, and 14-inch wheels. At around 143 kg it is heavier than most rivals, but the accessible 787 mm seat height and comfortable, spacious ergonomics keep it easy to live with.
