The Maruti e Vitara is Maruti Suzuki's first mass-market electric SUV, sold through the NEXA channel in Delta, Zeta and Alpha trims. It is front-wheel-drive only in India, offered with either a 49 kWh battery (142 bhp motor, 440 km ARAI range) or a 61 kWh battery (172 bhp motor, 543 km range). Prices start at Rs 15.99 lakh and go up to Rs 19.79 lakh (ex-showroom).
Range and charging
Both packs use LFP chemistry, a CCS2 charging port and a claimed 10-80% DC fast charge in about 45 minutes. The 49 kWh Delta is rated at 440 km, while the 61 kWh Zeta and Alpha are rated at 543 km — making the big pack one of the longest-range options in the segment. AC charging is home-friendly: about 6.5 hours for the Delta on its 7.4 kW charger, and around 5.5 hours for the Zeta and Alpha on the 11 kW charger.
Performance and driving
The 142 bhp Delta does 0-100 km/h in 9.5 seconds, while the 172 bhp Zeta and Alpha cut that to 9.25 seconds, with 192.5 Nm of torque across the range. Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes plus regenerative braking give control over the balance between range and response. MacPherson-strut front and torsion-beam rear suspension, with 185 mm ground clearance, keep it composed over Indian roads.
Features, safety and warranty
A 10.1-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Suzuki Connect's 60+ connected features handle the technology. Safety is a headline: a 5-star Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP rating, 7 airbags and Level 2 ADAS on the higher variants. The battery is covered for 8 years or 160,000 km, and Maruti's introductory Battery-as-a-Service scheme lets you buy the car for Rs 10.99 lakh plus a per-km battery rental.
Who should buy it
The e Vitara suits a first-time EV buyer who wants Maruti's service reach and a safe, long-range family SUV. It is a city and highway car rather than a hardcore off-roader, and India misses out on the all-wheel-drive version — worth knowing if you were hoping for AWD.
