Sealion 6 DM-i (Expected)
VariantsThe BYD Sealion 6 is an upcoming plug-in hybrid SUV (sold as the Sealion 6 DM-i) and will be BYD's first plug-in hybrid for India. BYD showcased the Sealion 6 at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 and teased its DM-i system in India on 9 June 2026, but it has not announced an ex-showroom price, variants or a sale date yet. Media estimates put it at roughly Rs 40-45 lakh (ex-showroom).
Powertrain: plug-in hybrid, not a pure EV
DM-i (Dual Mode, intelligent) is BYD's electric-first plug-in hybrid system: a large electric motor and a Blade battery drive the car most of the time, while a 1.5-litre petrol engine mostly acts as a generator and helps at highway speeds. In international markets the Sealion 6 DM-i pairs a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine with an 18.3 kWh battery (about 218 PS, front-wheel drive), or a turbo-petrol 1.5-litre with a 26.6 kWh battery (324-344 PS). BYD quotes a combined range of over 1,000 km. Which version India gets, and its electric-only range, is still unconfirmed.
Space and features
The Sealion 6 is a five-seat SUV, 4,775 mm long with a 2,765 mm wheelbase and a 425-litre boot. Features shown so far include a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital driver display, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats and an ADAS suite. It has been listed in White, Baltic Black, Harbour Grey, Stone Grey and Blue.
Who should consider it
The Sealion 6 suits buyers who want to drive mostly on electricity in the city but are not ready to depend on public charging for long trips. It is not a zero-emission vehicle: the petrol engine still runs on longer drives. Wait for BYD's official India specification sheet, price and electric-only range before comparing it with pure electric SUVs such as BYD's own Sealion 7.
