BMW i5

The BMW i5 is BMW India's fully electric interpretation of the 5 Series executive sedan, launched in the range-topping M60 xDrive guise in April 2024. It is priced at ₹1.20 crore (ex-showroom) as a single, fully loaded variant, pairing a dual-motor AWD powertrain with luxury-sedan comfort and genuine performance-car pace.

Battery & Range

A 83.9 kWh battery pack drives the dual-motor AWD setup, delivering a claimed range of 516 km on a full charge. Real-world range will be lower under performance driving, but the big pack makes the i5 a capable long-distance EV with a 230 km/h top speed when you want to use it.

Performance

The M60 xDrive produces 593 bhp and 795 Nm, sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. Power is delivered through multi-link suspension all round, with ventilated disc brakes front and rear and 20-inch wheels as standard.

Charging

The i5 supports DC fast charging at up to 205 kW, taking about 30 minutes for a 10-80% charge via its CCS-II port, while a 22 kW AC charger tops the battery in roughly 4 hours 15 minutes (255 minutes). Charging is supported via the My BMW App with connected-car features.

Dimensions & Practicality

At 5060 mm long, 2156 mm wide and 1505 mm tall with a 2995 mm wheelbase, it seats five and offers 490 litres of boot space. Equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, ventilated front seats, a curved 14.9-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a six-airbag safety package with ESP and TPMS.
