The Matter Aera 5000+ is India's first geared electric motorcycle, built by Ahmedabad-based Matter Motor Works. It pairs a liquid-cooled 5 kWh battery with an 11.5 kW (about 15.4 bhp) Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor delivering 450 Nm of wheel torque, routed through a unique 4-speed HyperShift manual gearbox with a slipper-and-assist clutch — a first for an electric two-wheeler in India.
It has a claimed IDC range of up to 172 km, a top speed of 105 km/h, and does 0-40 km/h in 2.3 seconds. A full charge takes about 6 hours on the standard charger, or the pack can be topped up to 80% in roughly 2 hours using the fast charger. Ergonomics include a 790 mm seat height, 183 mm ground clearance and a 168 kg kerb weight, with disc brakes at both ends and single-channel ABS.
The Aera 5000+ is well-equipped for its price, with a 7-inch LCD touchscreen, 4G connectivity, a companion app, adjustable regenerative braking, and Eco/City/Sport riding modes. It is backed by a 3-year/45,000 km standard warranty, with Matter also offering an optional lifetime battery warranty programme under Matter Care.
