Matter Aera

The Matter Aera 5000+ is India's first geared electric motorcycle, built by Ahmedabad-based Matter Motor Works. Priced at Rs 1.94 lakh (ex-showroom), it combines a liquid-cooled 5 kWh battery with an 11.5 kW motor and a genuine 4-speed manual gearbox for a riding character closer to a conventional motorcycle than any other Indian EV two-wheeler.

The Aera 5000+ is offered in a single variant at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.94 lakh. It is available in five colours — Cosmic Black, Cosmic Blue, Glacier White, Blaze Red and Nord Grey.

Battery, Range and Charging

The liquid-cooled 5 kWh battery delivers a claimed IDC range of up to 172 km. A full charge takes about 6 hours on the standard 1000W charger, while the 3000W fast charger tops the pack up to 80% in roughly 2 hours. Adjustable regenerative braking helps extend range in city riding.

Performance and Gearbox

The 11.5 kW (about 15.4 bhp) Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor delivers 450 Nm of wheel torque, with a claimed top speed of 105 km/h and a 0-40 km/h time of 2.3 seconds. The 4-speed HyperShift manual gearbox with a slipper-and-assist clutch is the headline feature, with Eco, City and Sport modes to match different riding styles.

Features and Ergonomics

A 7-inch LCD touchscreen with 4G connectivity and the Matter companion app handles navigation and ride data. Disc brakes at both ends — 270 mm front, 220 mm rear — with single-channel ABS manage stopping, while a 183 mm ground clearance, 1355 mm wheelbase and 168 kg kerb weight shape the riding position, with 3.5 litres of storage.

The Aera 5000+ is backed by a 3-year or 45,000 km standard warranty, with an optional lifetime battery warranty programme available under Matter Care.
