The Emote Electric Surge is an upcoming geared electric motorcycle from Coimbatore-based Emote Electric (formerly eMotion Motors, established 2011). First shown as a prototype in 2018 and showcased again at Auto Expo 2020, it is still pre-launch with pre-bookings open and an expected ex-showroom price of around Rs 1 lakh.
Battery & Range
Power comes from a Li-ion pack rated at 72V/40Ah (2.88 kWh; the OEM lists a 74V battery) with an intelligent BMS that can manage up to three batteries at once. Claimed range is 100 km per charge on a single pack, extendable to 200-300 km by adding up to two swappable battery packs.
Performance & Drivetrain
Billed as India's first geared electric motorcycle, the Surge drives through a 4-speed wide-ratio gearbox with a claimed top speed of 120 km/h and 0-60 km/h in under 4 seconds. The OEM quotes 33 Nm of torque; earlier coverage cited 28 Nm. Three ride modes (Distance, Balanced, Performance), customisable throttle response and a reverse mode are included.
Charging
The included home charger tops up a full charge in roughly 4 hours (the OEM FAQ cites 3 hours 20 minutes). At fast-charge outlets, the Bharat DC-001 compatible battery can go from 0-80% in about 30 minutes per the manufacturer's claim.
Features & Safety
The Surge is equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen display, 4G/Bluetooth/WiFi connectivity, a companion app with keyless start, geo-fencing and remote diagnostics, full LED lighting, 50 litres of storage, Combi Brakes with disc brakes at both ends, a trellis frame with upside-down fork, variable regenerative braking and connected safety aids such as crash detection and automatic SOS.
