The Mahindra Treo is India's best-selling electric auto-rickshaw, with over one lakh units sold, built for commercial passenger transport and last-mile mobility. It is priced from Rs 3.23 lakh to Rs 3.38 lakh (ex-showroom) and combines a compact three-wheeler footprint with the running-cost savings of an electric drivetrain.
Price and Variants
The Treo is offered in three variants — the 4-Seater/Yaari SFT at Rs 3.23 lakh, the 4-Seater/Yaari HRT at Rs 3.33 lakh and the 3-Seater/SFT at Rs 3.38 lakh (ex-showroom). All variants share a single Marine Blue & White livery.
Range and Charging
A 7.4 kWh lithium-ion battery delivers a real-world range of about 110 km per charge, against an ARAI-certified figure of 139 km — enough for a full day of urban passenger trips. A full charge takes roughly 3 hours 50 minutes on a standard home socket, at an estimated cost of Rs 60-80 per charge. There is no fast-charging option.
Performance and Build
An 8 kW (10.7 bhp) motor produces 42 Nm of torque for a 55 km/h top speed, with 12% gradeability and Hill Hold Assist for inclined starts. The body uses corrosion- and dent-free SMC panels with a weatherproof flex canopy over a steel-tube frame, and the motor is IP67-sealed against dust and monsoon water. Payload capacity is 550 kg.
Ownership and Running Costs
Against a CNG auto, the Treo is estimated to save drivers up to Rs 4.4 lakh over five years on running costs, and the battery carries a 5-year or 120,000 km warranty. With a 2900 mm turning radius, it is nimble in narrow lanes and busy streets — a key advantage for drivers chasing more trips per shift.
Who Should Buy the Mahindra Treo?
The Treo is for auto-rickshaw operators, fleet owners and last-mile service providers who want proven volume (one lakh-plus units sold), a strong service network and low per-km running costs. Drivers who need fast charging or colour choice will find the AC-only charging and single-livery line-up limiting.
