Greaves Eltra City

The Greaves Eltra City is a fully-built, battery-electric auto-rickshaw from Greaves Electric Mobility, built for commercial passenger and last-mile city transport. It seats a driver plus three passengers (D+3) in a day-cabin layout on a chassis-with-cabin frame. Greaves has not announced an ex-showroom price, the City is sold on enquiry through dealers, and it competes with the Mahindra Treo, Piaggio Ape E City and Bajaj RE in the electric three-wheeler segment.

Range and charging

The Eltra City runs on a 10.8 kWh lithium-ion (LFP) battery pack at 51.2 V. Greaves quotes a true range of roughly 150 km per charge in the official Eltra City leaflet, with its site listing up to 160 km realistic and 171 km ARAI-tested range. A full charge takes about 5 to 6 hours from a standard AC socket; there is no DC fast-charging option, so operators typically charge overnight or between shifts. Regenerative braking helps recover energy in stop-and-go traffic.

Performance and payload

A 9.6 kW PMS motor drives the rear wheel with 49 Nm of torque, giving a 48 km/h top speed and 14-degree gradeability, supported by Hill Hold Assist for inclined starts. Greaves advertises up to 530 kg of payload against a 754 kg gross vehicle weight and a 424 kg kerb weight. The body measures 2850 mm long, 1310 mm wide and 1730 mm high on a 1910 mm wheelbase with 155 mm of ground clearance. Brakes are drums front and rear; the front suspension uses a helical spring with dampener and the rear a rubber spring with dampener. Cabin equipment includes a 6.2-inch digital cluster, Bluetooth connectivity and IoT telemetry.

Who should buy it

The Eltra City suits auto-rickshaw drivers and small fleets running urban passenger trips where low per-kilometre running cost matters more than speed. Greaves backs it with a 3-year or 80,000 km vehicle warranty, a 5-year battery warranty, 24x7 roadside assistance and a pan-India service network built on the company's 165-year legacy. With no public price yet and a D+3 layout, it is best evaluated against the Treo and Ape E City on running cost and dealer support.
