Baxy Lion

The Baxy Lion is an electric passenger auto rickshaw from Baxy Mobility, the Gurugram-based three-wheeler maker that has been building commercial vehicles since 1982. Sold in a single 1910/Electric variant, the Lion is positioned as a high-range city and semi-urban e-rickshaw for drivers who need a full shift out of one charge. The price is yet to be announced and is expected to be confirmed at launch through Baxy dealerships.

Range and charging

The Lion runs on a 200 Ah lithium battery that delivers a real-world range of up to 130 km on a full charge, as tested under load by Baxy. A full charge takes 3.5 to 4.5 hours on a standard home socket, so the auto can be plugged in overnight and be ready before the morning shift. The battery carries a 3-year warranty, which is strong cover for an e-rickshaw in this class.

Performance and payload

A 6.3 kW BLDC motor producing 55 Nm of peak torque powers the Lion, with a maximum speed of around 38 km/h. The D+3 cabin seats the driver and three passengers on a 1,940 mm wheelbase, with 180 mm of ground clearance that copes with speed bumps and rough patches. The gross vehicle weight is 782 kg and the vehicle rides on three tyres (4.5x10 8PR) with drum brakes all round, an automatic gearbox (1 forward + 1 reverse) and a handlebar steering setup. Standard features include a driver information display; air conditioning, power steering, seat belts and hill hold are not offered.

The Lion suits auto drivers and small fleet operators who want a 130 km range in an electric three-wheeler, especially those running longer urban routes where a low-range e-rickshaw would need a mid-day charge. The 180 mm ground clearance and 782 kg GVW make it a practical choice for Indian road conditions, and the 3-year battery warranty reduces the worry that usually comes with lithium ownership in this segment.
