Baxy Cub

The Baxy Cub is an electric passenger auto rickshaw from Baxy Mobility, the Gurugram three-wheeler maker that has been building commercial vehicles since 1982. It is a 3-tyre, fully built passenger carrier with a chassis-with-cabin layout, an 8 kW BLDC motor and a 150 Ah lithium-ion battery. Baxy sells the Cub on dealer quotation rather than a fixed ex-showroom price, so the on-road figure varies by city and dealer.

Range and charging

The Cub runs on a 150 Ah lithium battery and is claimed to deliver up to 130 km on a full charge, a figure Baxy says is tested under load in real-world operating conditions. A full charge takes 4.5 to 5.5 hours through the external slow AC charger, so the auto suits overnight depot charging or daytime top-ups during longer breaks rather than fast turnaround charging. The lithium pack carries a 3-year warranty, which is competitive cover for an e-rickshaw in this segment.

The 8 kW BLDC motor produces 55 Nm of peak torque and pushes the Cub to a governed top speed of about 38 km/h. The vehicle is rated at a gross vehicle weight of 708 kg and a seating capacity of D+3, carrying the driver and three passengers on a 2,000 mm wheelbase. It rides on three tyres (3.5-4PR) with drum brakes, telescopic hydraulic front suspension and a left-spring rear axle, and comes with a driver information display, parking brakes and a handlebar steering setup. Dimensions are 2,650 mm long, 1,320 mm wide and 1,780 mm tall, with 170 mm of ground clearance. There is no air conditioning, power steering, seat belt, hill-hold or tubeless tyre option.
