A budget electric scooter with more variety than its price suggests

The Herald Royal is the entry point to the Ghaziabad-based brand's scooter line, launched in July 2023 and sold today in four trims: STD, Prime, DLX and Pro. EVSocho lists it at Rs 1,01,039 ex-showroom, though the family spans anywhere from Rs 63,761 for the base STD to Rs 1,22,797 for the flagship Pro, so there is a wide spread of hardware under one nameplate.

Motor, battery and charging

Every Royal carries a BLDC hub motor. Aggregators rate it at 2 kW with 1,000 W continuous output, and the base trims are governed to 25 km/h, which places them in the licence-free low-speed bracket many first-time buyers look for. Step up to the DLX or Pro and the same nameplate becomes an RTO-approved 70 km/h scooter. Herald sells the Royal with lead-acid or lithium-ion batteries across 48V, 60V and 72V configurations, and quotes a 4 to 5 hour charge on the larger packs. The standard trims recharge in 3 to 4 hours.

Range: honest answer first

Herald does not publish a certified range figure for any individual Royal trim, and neither BikeDekho nor ZigWheels lists one. The company's own product page quotes a broad 50 to 200 km depending on the battery option selected. Treat the lower half of that band as the realistic planning number for city use until independent testing says otherwise.

Who should buy it

If you want the cheapest possible route into electric motoring for short daily runs, the low-speed Royal trims do the job with proper disc brakes and a workable feature list. If you want highway-legal pace, the same scooter exists as a 70 km/h DLX or Pro, and Herald backs the lineup with financing partnerships and delivery across 17 states. Just go in with eyes open: service touchpoints remain limited to a single primary outlet, and warranty terms vary noticeably by battery pack.
