The Nexon EV's biggest decision point is which battery pack to buy, not which trim. The 30 kWh MR variants (Creative Plus MR through Empowered MR, Rs 12.49-14.79 lakh) top out at a 275 km ARAI/MIDC range with 127 bhp and rear drum brakes -- fine for city commuting but tight for regular highway runs. Stepping up to the 45 kWh pack (Creative 45 through Empowered Plus A 45, Rs 13.99-17.49 lakh) buys a genuinely different car: 489 km of certified range, 142 bhp from the Gen-2 motor, and rear disc brakes instead of drums. For anyone doing inter-city driving even occasionally, the 45 kWh pack is worth the roughly Rs 1.5 lakh premium over the equivalent MR trim; buyers who only drive within a city will save real money on the MR without giving up much day to day.

Charging speed is a genuine differentiator between the two packs, not just a battery-size story. The 45 kWh pack supports a 60 kW DC charger and recovers 10-80% in about 40 minutes, while the 30 kWh MR pack is limited to a 50 kW DC charger and takes closer to 56 minutes for the same 10-80% window -- so the smaller pack is both shorter-range and slower to top up on a percentage basis. On AC, Tata quotes roughly 6 hours 36 minutes for a 7.2 kW wallbox on the 45 kWh pack, which lines up with a realistic overnight home-charging routine. None of the Nexon EV variants offer ultra-fast (100 kW+) DC charging, so this remains a car best suited to owners with reliable home or workplace AC charging rather than frequent long-distance DC-charger-hopping.

Feature and safety equipment is where the trim ladder (not the battery pack) does the work. Even the base Creative Plus MR gets 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, and ESP, while the top Empowered Plus A trims add Level 2 ADAS (lane keep assist, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking), a 12.3-inch touchscreen with a 9-speaker JBL system, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof -- a genuinely premium feature set for a sub-Rs 18 lakh EV. The catch is that these higher-end comfort and safety features are concentrated in the pricier 45 kWh trims (Empowered Plus 45 and up), so buyers who want ADAS and a loaded cabin will end up paying for the bigger battery whether or not they need the extra range.
