The MG ZS EV is MG's compact fully electric SUV in India, priced from Rs 17.99 lakh to Rs 20.50 lakh ex-showroom across seven variants. It pairs a 50.3 kWh lithium-ion battery with a permanent-magnet synchronous motor producing 174 bhp and 280 Nm of torque, claims 461 km on a full charge, and does 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds.
Range and charging
The ZS EV claims 461 km on the ARAI cycle, though real-world testing on Indian roads has returned roughly 351 km in the city and 327 km on the highway. A 50 kW DC fast charger takes it from 0-80% in about 60 minutes via its CCS-II port, while a full 0-100% AC charge takes around 9 hours, so home top-ups are best left overnight.
Performance and driving
The 174 bhp motor delivers a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 8.5 seconds and a 175 km/h top speed, with Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes, regenerative braking and 280 Nm of instant torque. Ground clearance is 177 mm and it rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with disc brakes all round.
Practicality and features
The ZS EV seats five with a 448 to 488 litre boot. Kit includes a 10.11-inch touchscreen with MG i-SMART connected tech and Apple CarPlay, a fully digital instrument cluster, Level 2 ADAS, six airbags, a panoramic sunroof on higher variants, wireless charging and an electric tailgate.
Who should buy it
Families and city commuters wanting a well-equipped, safe compact electric SUV with strong claimed range and Level 2 ADAS. The 8-year or 150,000 km battery warranty and 3-year vehicle warranty cover ownership; the trade-offs are that real-world range trails the claim and AC home charging is a slow overnight affair.
