MG 4 EV

The MG 4 EV is an upcoming rear-wheel-drive electric hatchback that MG has shown in India since the 2023 Auto Expo but has yet to bring to market. Expected to be priced between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 35 lakh, the MG 4 EV is positioned as a driver-focused performance EV rather than a commuter, with a claimed range of up to 450 km on global-spec numbers.

Range and charging

Up to 450 km claimed. The MG 4 EV is expected with a 51 kWh battery claiming around 350 km and a 64 kWh battery claiming up to 450 km in Long Range form, with the Trophy Long Range listed at 435 km. These are global WLTP-derived figures that JSW MG has not yet confirmed for India.

Fast charging in about 35-39 minutes. On a 150 kW DC charger, the MG 4 EV is expected to go from 10 to 80 percent in about 35 to 39 minutes, while a full AC charge at 7 kW takes roughly 7.5 to 9 hours.

Performance and driving

Sharp rear-drive dynamics. With 250 Nm of torque, a 0-100 km/h time of around 7.7 seconds in standard form and a 160 km/h top speed, the MG 4 EV is one of the quicker-feeling hatchbacks in its class. Long Range versions step up to around 203 bhp with a 0-100 time of about 7.9 seconds.

Practicality and features

Five seats and a 363 litre boot. The MG 4 EV pairs its sporty character with a 2705 mm wheelbase, a 363 litre boot, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, Level 2 ADAS, seven airbags and Apple CarPlay. It has also scored five stars in Euro NCAP testing globally, a strong safety reference point for India.

Who should buy it

Drivers who want an EV that handles. If you value rear-drive balance, quick acceleration and a low-slung driving position over SUV height, the MG 4 EV is one of the most appealing electric hatchbacks coming to India. Buyers on a tighter budget or those who need a high-riding body should look at more conventional compact EVs, since the MG 4 EV is expected to carry a premium starting price.
