BYD eMAX 7

The BYD eMAX 7 is an all-electric premium MPV from BYD, the successor to the BYD e6 in India. It is offered in 6-seat and 7-seat configurations with two Blade Battery options — 55.4 kWh and 71.8 kWh — and is priced from Rs 26.90 lakh to Rs 29.90 lakh (ex-showroom). It targets families who want an electric people mover with serious range and a premium cabin.

Range and charging

The eMAX 7 offers three range ratings depending on the variant: 420 km on the 55.4 kWh pack, 485 km on the Comfort 71.8 kWh variants and up to 530 km on the top Superior 71.8 kWh variant. It uses a CCS2 charging port, with DC fast charging taking about 40 minutes for a 10-80% top-up and a full AC charge taking about 8 hours. Real-world range will be lower than the claimed figures under highway speeds or heavy loads.

Performance and driving

The front-wheel-drive eMAX 7 makes 161 bhp on the Comfort and Premium trims and 201 bhp on the Superior, with 310 Nm of torque across the range. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 8.6 seconds and reaches a 180 km/h top speed, which is more than adequate for an MPV. The 2800 mm wheelbase and 4710 mm length give it a planted, stable feel on the highway.

Practicality and features

Choose between a 6-seat or 7-seat layout, with a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen, 6 airbags, Level 2 ADAS on the Superior variant, a panoramic sunroof and BYD's Blade Battery technology as headline features. Boot space is 180 litres, and ground clearance is 170 mm. The eMAX 7 was launched in India on 8 October 2024, and its low running costs are a big part of its appeal.
