BMW iX

The BMW iX is a fully electric luxury crossover SUV sold in India in a single xDrive50 variant at Rs 1.40 crore ex-showroom. It combines a 111.5 kWh lithium-ion battery with dual synchronous motors producing 516 bhp and 765 Nm of torque, good for a claimed 575 km ARAI range and a 0-100 km/h time of 4.6 seconds.

Range and charging

The iX is rated for 575 km on the ARAI cycle, with WLTP claims up to 635 km; owners typically see around 500 km in real-world combined driving. On a 195 kW DC fast charger it goes from 10-80% in about 35 minutes through its CCS-II port, and a 22 kW AC home charger fills the pack in roughly 5.5 hours.

Performance and driving

Dual motors give the iX all-wheel-drive traction, 765 Nm of instant torque and a 4.6-second 0-100 km/h run, capped at a 200 km/h top speed. Air suspension front and rear, three drive modes, regenerative braking and 202 mm of ground clearance keep this near-2.3-tonne SUV composed and comfortable.

Practicality and features

The iX seats five with a 500-litre boot. Inside you get a 14.9-inch curved touchscreen running iDrive 8.5, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an 18-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a panoramic Sky Lounge sunroof, a connected-car app and a comprehensive Level 2 ADAS suite.
