Piaggio Ape E-City FX

The Piaggio Ape E-City FX is a high-speed electric passenger three-wheeler (L5M) from Piaggio Vehicles, priced from Rs 2.84 lakh (ex-showroom). It is an electric auto rickshaw with a fully built body, day cabin and handlebar steering, built on a chassis-with-cabin layout with a 1,920 mm wheelbase. With seating for a driver and up to three passengers, it is aimed at city and short-distance passenger transport operators moving to zero-emission running.

Range and charging

A 7.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack running at 51.2 V delivers a claimed range of up to 110 km on a full charge. Recharging takes approximately 3 hours 45 minutes on the supplied charger, which suits overnight charging between shifts.

The E-City FX is powered by an electric motor that produces 7 hp and 29 Nm of torque, with a top speed of 45 km/h and a gradeability of 19 percent. It carries a gross vehicle weight of 713 kg including a kerb weight of 413 kg, giving a working payload of around 300 kg. Drum brakes, a 4.0-8 tyre set and 163 mm ground clearance keep it suited to city roads and frequent stops.
