Komaki XGT X5: a three-wheel electric scooter built around stability

The Komaki XGT X5 is not trying to look sporty. It is one of the few electric scooters in India designed first for elderly riders and people with mobility challenges, and its defining feature is right where you would least expect it: a second wheel at the back. The twin rear-wheel setup with dual shock absorbers keeps the scooter upright at walking pace and through turns, while a single front wheel rides on a telescopic fork. The 2.1 kWh lithium-ion battery (60V, 35Ah) delivers an ARAI-claimed range of 90-100 km per charge and refills from a regular home socket in roughly four to five hours. Regenerative braking recovers a little energy every time you slow down, and three riding modes - Eco, Turbo and Sport - let you trade zip for range depending on the day.

Designed for real accessibility

Komaki has packed the X5 with features that sound small until you need them. Reverse mode and parking assist take the strain out of tight driveways. Keyless entry, an anti-theft alarm, self-diagnosis and an emergency repair switch cover security and peace of mind. There is an 18-litre boot under the single seat, a passenger backrest for pillion comfort, USB charging for a phone, full LED lighting with DRLs, and a digital console showing speed, battery and trip data.

Safety and braking

Disc brakes at both ends bring it to a stop predictably, backed by regenerative braking; there is no ABS, which is normal at this price. Tubeless tyres on alloy wheels reduce the risk of sudden deflation, and the wide, upright stance keeps ground clearance at a practical 170 mm for speed bumps and rough approaches.

Price and verdict

At Rs 1,04,846 ex-showroom, the XGT X5 costs more than most conventional electric scooters, but nothing else in the market offers this kind of factory-built stability. If the rider is a senior citizen, a person with limited mobility, or simply someone who wants a three-wheel safety net for daily errands, it has no natural rival.
