DAO 703: A Distinctive High-Speed Electric Scooter

The DAO 703 is a high-speed electric scooter from DAO EVTech, launched in India in April 2021 and assembled at the company's Chakan, Pune plant. It is offered in a single STD variant and four colours: True Red, Polar White, Salt Green and Blue.

Motor, Battery and Charging

A 2.5 kW BLDC hub motor drives the 703 to a claimed top speed of 70 km/h, with riding modes for Eco, Sport and Power. Power comes from a 2.16 kWh removable LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery, chosen for heat tolerance and safety, with an ARAI-claimed range of 111 km per charge. A full charge takes about 4.5 hours on the 7A/12A charger, and the battery swaps out for charging away from the scooter. Battery warranty is 3 years.

Features and Hardware

Feature list includes keyless ignition with remote start, cruise control, reverse assist, an Intelligent Release System proximity kill-switch, automatic power-off on tip-over, anti-theft alert and a large digital console. Braking is by discs at both ends with Combi Brake System, on 12-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres. Telescopic forks sit up front with double shockers at the rear; kerb weight is 106 kg with 180 mm of ground clearance.

Should You Consider It?

Independent road testing has flagged real-world range well short of the claim and an untrustworthy charge indicator, while owners praise its looks, build and city manners. At its listed price it sits in TVS iQube territory, so buyers should weigh the removable-battery convenience and free-service promise against stronger-established rivals.
