Bajaj Chetak 2903: The Budget Entry That Started the Sub-1-Lakh Chetak Era

The Chetak 2903 was Bajaj's most affordable electric scooter when it launched in January 2025, bringing the metal-body Chetak formula under the Rs 1 lakh mark at Rs 98,498 ex-showroom. It pairs a 2.9 kWh lithium-ion battery with a BLDC hub motor rated up to 4.2 kW, and carries the IP67 water resistance and steel construction that define the line-up.

Range, Charging & Top Speed

Bajaj claims 123 km per charge from the 2.9 kWh pack, with a top speed of 63 km/h - an honest city-commuter brief rather than a highway machine. Charging runs off the standard AC charger only: about 4 hours for a 0-80 percent top-up. There is no fast-charging option on this trim.

Features

For a budget trim the kit list is unusually complete: Eco and Sport ride modes plus reverse assist, hill-hold assist, a coloured LCD instrument cluster and Bluetooth connectivity covering call accept/reject and music control through the TecPac system. Self-cancelling blinkers, guide-me-home lights, reverse lights and an auto-flashing stop lamp round off the smart features. Braking is drum at both ends, with 90/90-12 tubeless tyres front and rear; dimensions include a 1,894 mm length, 1,330 mm wheelbase, 160 mm ground clearance, 772 mm seat height and a manageable 126 kg kerb weight.

Pricing and Availability

The 2903 was listed at Rs 98,498 ex-showroom. Note that Bajaj has since replaced it with the Chetak C3001 at Rs 99,990, and the newer C2501 now anchors the budget end of the range - so availability of the 2903 depends on remaining dealer stock.

Who Should Buy the Bajaj Chetak 2903

This trim suited first-time EV buyers and tight-budget commuters who wanted authentic Chetak build quality - metal panels, IP67 battery, dealer backing - without paying for the bigger pack or higher top speed. If you regularly ride above 60 km/h or need more than about 100 km of real-world range, the C3001 or the 3.5 kWh variants are the better spend; as a sub-1-lakh city runabout, the 2903 made few compromises that matter.
